Goodbye my friend!

 We had to say goodbye to our sweet little Pekingese this week after a long struggle!  It is always so, so hard to make this decision but I know in my heart it was the decision that had to be made.  We rescued this guy when he was about 6 years old from the local SPCA where he was slated to be euthanized.  I don't typically go for little dogs or boy dogs but something told me I should help him out! My husband was more than a little perturbed being we already had 2 dogs but as it turns out this was his best friend!

We don't really know much about his history other than that he was in the animal shelter for 8 months.  He was neutered when he arrived at the shelter so my best guess is that he was used as a "stud" dog.  He did not know how to play, or socialize, or any other simple commands.  He arrived to use with an awful "kennel" cough, an eye infection, and full of matts (a stick was even embedded in one of his matts!).  While I appreciate the SPCA I just don't know how they could let this guy end up like this!

His original name was "Dingle" ugh!  So we set about changing it and my daughter chose "Ricco James" but we ended up calling him "Jim."  He was cranky, full of attitude and oppositional, but we fell in love with him.  His favorite activity was to go "byes" as he loved his walks!  He never did learn how to play, hated our cats and our other dogs.  He generally preferred men though I tried my hardest to endear myself to him, ha!

In the last year he developed Cushings Disease and Dementia.  We cared for him until it was clear he wasn't too happy and there was nothing else we could do!  It just seems so unjust that one little dog suffered so much.  I do hope "Jim" enjoyed his six years with us and that we gave him some quality of life.  He certainly taught me so much and I will miss the little guy!

How could you not fall in love with this little face?!

Goodbye my sweet little friend!  I am saddened that you are gone but I hope you're enjoying your "byes" in a much better place!  Til we meet again...

PS  - I know that I've been missing in action again and I promise to be back soon with a cheerier post!

What a precious little face. I'm sure Jim had wonderful days with you, days he would not have had if you hadn't rescued him.

It's amazing what a hold on your heart these little guy have. I'm so, so sorry for your loss.

oh bless your heart for giving him a loving home! Strange how those special needs animals make their way to arms of someone who will love them:) We have a kitty who we rescued as kitten, not knowing that she would grow to be a "dwarf" cat that cannot jump. She is a full size cat, but her legs are very short. We named her Angel since there must have been an angel making sure she came to the right home to care for her. She is now almost 11....

That has to be among one of the hardest things to do but it sounds like he was well loved for those years and will be truly missed. {{{Hugs}}}

Good for you for taking on Jim-he does look a sweetheart. I was brought up with Pekes and they can be such characters. You know you have done the right thing - he will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. hugs

J, you gave him six wonderful years and I know Jim dearly loved you for it. It's so hard to lose a fur baby. Ours was sick for a while and scared us but he seems to be his old self again now. Where are you? Hope things are okay with you. Miss seeing you. xoxo

He looks cute...... poor guy... any how nice to know that you had taken care of it very well. so he has gone happily... Whatever / whoever gone is gone and nothing can be done on it. I remember my favourite dog Suppu and Jillu both of them liked me a lot.. but what to do?

Oh this makes me sad. Our Bentley is a rescue dog and he sounds a lot like Jim...although he prefers me to my hubby. He is stubborn and cantankerous at times, but we adore him. I know Jim is walking free and happy now....

I went to Doll House to by a Sherri Hill dress 1403 for the best price quoted $450 for my daughter. I was told that Doll House has a registry and that I would be the only one wearing this style dress at my formal. When I arrived at my formal, there were two 2 other girls wearing exactly the same style dress and they also got it from dollhouse I can’t begin to tell you how angry and sick that made me feels. I will not be taking my daughter there for her year 12 formal.
