A Lot of White on this Pink Saturday!

Welcome to another addition of Pink Saturday!  Once again, please be sure to visit Beverly at http://www.howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ to see all of the participants this week.  Many participants will be sharing their holiday recipes so it's definitely worth a look!  This week my post is more white than pink!

First, I thought I would show you my new pink coat I purchased while out shopping on Black Friday.

Yep, I sure do love it.  For those of you who know me, you know I hate wearing coats and really only wear them when it gets really cold, like in the 20's, or when we get a lot of snow.  Many of you know that I live in Western New York and you may have heard that we had a little snow this week.  Well, I should say some of us had a bit of snow this week.

This is a picture of my neighborhood today.  No snow, not a flake, just green grass.

Another view of my snowless neighborhood.  I live near two of the Great Lakes, Ontario and Erie.  You may also know that when you live by the lake, you can sometimes get a lake effect snow storm, essentially driven by the lake.  The amount you get just depends upon where you live and which way the winds are blowing.  My home is situated closer to Lake Ontario and we often miss major lake effect snow storms.  But good old Buffalo is about 20 miles from my home and is situated closer to Lake Erie which has given us quite a few good snow storms.

This week was no exception.  But most of Buffalo was spared this time.  Downtown has very little snow but if you drive a little bit farther south, well, they got hammered!  From South Buffalo through the towns of Orchard Park and West Seneca and even further south there is a bit of snow.  So, why am I putting on my pink coat you ask?  Because I work in Orchard Park.  The lake effect snow is a funny thing as sometimes it is concentrated in a very small area.  A mere 25 miles from my home, where I work, was pounded with 3 FEET, yes 3 feet of snow!  Probably closer to 4 in some areas!  I can tell you that it was snowing when I reached work on Wednesday at noon and did not stop until Thursday night!

When I drove home Wednesday evening the first half of my drive was treacherous.  I drive part way on the New York State Thruway which was covered in snow and very slippery.  As I was driving, I noticed that the traffic in the other direction had come to a stop because a tracker trailer had jack-knifed.  I thought to myself "thank God I am going the other way."  Well, when I woke up Thursday morning and turned on the news, I learned that those people were still there!  Yes, stranded on the highway, many cars out of gas and/or stuck in the snow for 11 miles of the thruway!  Some of those people were stranded for up to 20 hours!  Jeez people this is BUFFALO we are used to snow and yes, sometimes a lot of snow.  This is not the first time this has happened.  Hmmm.... you think it's about time the Thruway Authority derives a plan so this doesn't happen yet again?!  Oh, I digress...

I didn't make it to work on Thursday.  Obviously not because I was snowed in but because the roads leading to my work were a mess.  Some were closed and some were just impassable.

However, I made it to work in my West Seneca office today.  There are just piles and piles and piles of snow everywhere!

I know this isn't the best picture but I wanted you to see the snow piled on the balconies of this apartment building.

Check out this sign. This might give you an idea of what 3 - 4 feet of snow look like.

There is a building beneath this snow!

I found this in our parking lot today.  I found it amusing though I am sure the owner won't, ha!

Look at the snow piled on top of this building.  It is just crazy to see all of the snow.  I can't wait for Spring!

I hope you all have a warm and cozy pink weekend!  Guess what?  We're expecting more snow, ugh!

Pink hugs,
Jacalyn

I live in Orlando and the local news had the story of alll of those people stuck on the road for 12 hours! They said they were brining them food, water, and gas. They said the storm cam up soo fast it took people by surprise. We are having a snap of cold weather here also it will be in the 40's tonight and only the 60's during the day, pretty big deal for Orlando, you can smell all of the smoke from fireplaces tonight. Oh, I love your pink coat.

Jaclyn, so glad you were not in the 12 hour traffic jam. Snow is so pretty when you are home safe looking at it but from the looks of that snow, it could cave in some roofs if allowed to sit there very long. Love the pink coat! Have a good weekend.

You must be one warm blooded girl if it takes a blizzard to get a coat on you! I think I would wear that adorable pink number when it was in the 80's! HPS...Marcia

Dear Jaclyn: Your pictures leave me chilly and wanting to put on a big warm coat. Speaking of coats ~ yours is lovely, as is the model! You're very "Pretty In Pink". I cannot believe a mere 25 miles of distance between 2 locations can result in that much difference in the weather. It's unbelievable! I suspect your coat is going to come in handy.

I went to Houghton College for four years just south of you, and rode home during all winter holidays on those little roads to Rochester and then on the Thruway to Rome-Utica. It surprises me that my mother wasn't more concerned. My brother lives in Niagara Falls now...wonder how they did with this storm?

Love your pink coat. As more of a southerner now, and living in CA for two weeks, I'm with you on the coats. Vermont winters required them. I have a down long coat left over now, too. Maybe you need it? LOL!

Happy Pink Saturday!

Well, first let me just say I have coat envy. I've debated on buying a pink coat b/c I don't wear a coat much either and thought the color may be limiting. But, maybe I need to rethink that one.
The snow is so pretty. Can't imagine. It's like a warm spring day here in GA.
Hope you're having a great weekend!

What a difference between where you work and where you live, weather-wise! We've had freak weather here in the UK (usually we don't get any snow in London) and I've been housebound 3 days because of all the snow & black ice. Today I did manage to get out, came home and it was raining heavily: frost forecast for tonight, so I guess I'll be housebound tomorrow as well! Good thing we have some DVDs to watch.

Happy Pink Saturday, and thanks so much for visiting!

You should be glad you do not get snow like that. It is pretty to look at but I had rather do without it. Fortunately, we do not get snow here very often.

OMGosh, girl...that is a LOT of snow. brrrr..
Like you, I only wear a coat when I just HAVE to. I hate wearing them, climbing in the car, getting too hot, and on and on..:))

Stay warm, sister friend.

I think you might need more than that pretty pink coat. Maybe an Eskimo sled or something. Brrrrr.

Snow is the norm for us here in eastern Canada. We don't have any at the moment but I'm sure in two weeks time all our green grass will be covered over by the white stuff. I'd be hapy if it never came but that rarely happens around here. We just have to live with it till March. Cute pink jacket BTW! Happy Pink Saturday.

Blessings,
Sandi

HPS Jacqueline....I am glad you were spared the snow...this time! lol! Over here in Port Huron we get the lake effect snow that Buffalo gets only they get much, much more and I am not envious one single bit!
Your new pink jacket has a really pretty style to it and you will be glad you have it as it gets colder and colder!
Be cozy!

Jacalyn,

LOVE that coat! Hope you have dug out of the snow by now, but if not, at least you will look fashionable slogging through the muck! LOL! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
