Pink Saturday and a very pink bathroom!

Happy Pink Saturday!  Please be sure and stop by and see Beverly, our hostess ever week, to view all of the participants this week!  You remember the post from last week about painting my bathroom pink?

Well I sure did go a head and paint it and who knew that Carnation Pink would come out sooooooo very pink! Yikes!

It's not that I don't like it.  I really like the color but boy is it darker than I thought it would be.  My bathroom is not very large so, that's just say, it is VERY pink!  The trim is white and I must admit that it looks really pretty against the pink.  Here's a little pink tour.

I didn't want to shock you all by showing you an entire pink bathroom, ha, so I just gave you some snippets!  But, I have a little dilemma that maybe you can help me solve.  I have a curtain that I have had up since the bathroom was a very pale pink and I would like to change it.

I think a plain white one would look better - my shower curtain, the trim, and the cupboards are all white which look very nice against the pink.  But, my husband and daughter think I should leave the present curtain.  I just wonder if it's too much not that my bathroom is so pink.  Opinions?

Does anyone know how to lighten paint without re-painting the entire room?  I was thinking that maybe there's some magic potion out there that I don't know about, ha, ha!

Oh and would you all be so kind to vote for me in the Shabby Lane Shop Website Holiday Decorating Contest?  If you already voted, thank you, but you can vote again too!  Click on the link below to vote.  My most heartfelt thanks!

Have a wonderful weekend!

OXOXOXOX,
Jacalyn

Oh sweetie, I have to say that I am a pink fraud. I like the color pink, but it is not my favorite. I do however love your bathroom and the color is gorgeous. I think maybe you just need to live with it awhile and see if you don't fall in love with it later. It's probably a shocking change, but I think with all the white trim, it's beautiful. I think the same for the curtain. White would be pretty, but leave the one up you have now and maybe change it out in the spring.....change is good and yours is gorgeous. Happy Pink Saturday, Char

That pink in the can looks good enough to eat! Can't tell from the photos but I'm sure it's very pretty on the walls too. I agree with Char, you should live with it a while and see if you love it or not. Same with the curtains. Thanks for sharing and Happy Pink Saturday weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

Your Pink is fabulous!! If you don't like it..it's just paint..easy to paint over...not like stripping wallpaper!

Play around... I think you will enjoy it!
Have a great weekend!

Oh Happy Pink Saturday Sweetie...
I love this pink. Cotton candy looks like to me.

Sweetie I have got to tell you, I have to agree with the other pinkies, sometimes we make such a drastic change we just aren't sure. Live with it for awhile and see what you think in a few months. It is so strikingly beautiful with the white trim. It looks so DDG. I love it, and I am not a big fan of pink paint, but it is so pretty sweetie. I think it is definitely you.

Hope you have a beautiful Pink Saturday and a wonderful weekend. Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

When I was a teenager, I had a bedroom that color. My brother swore it was the color of Pepto Bismol, but I loved it then. It helped that I had a lot of other colors in the room to break the pink up.

If you really don't like that pink, you could try adding some more colors in there to fool the eye and break up some of that color.

My personal opinion and this is only because you asked for help- I think the pink is too much for that room, especially to basically be the only color of that intensity in the room.

You could try sponging on top of it. If done correctly, it looks like wallpaper and not out of date "I sponged my walls'. The trick is to do it tone on tone. Get quart of a medium shade and another in a light shade. This works best with at least one of these paints having a sheen so go for semi gloss or gloss for one of them. Then with a light hand so it will look lacy.

You could also try other paint techniques like diluting another shade down with glaze or water and white washing the walls.

My guess is if the walls are toned down, you will like the curtain better. If you keep the paint as is, I would switch the curtain to a white one, especially since everything else in the room is white and you like the white against the pink.

PS. Give it a chance...if still not happy then change...

I agree, live with it awhile, change the curtain to white to add more white and lots of art work on the walls. That way the pink will recede and you will have pops of other colors. I was thinking, lace curtain taped to the wall and sponge white paint over for a lace overlay effect? Then I thought that would be too busy, so nevermind. I like the pink, it is very pretty. I have the same curtain in my bathroom, we have the same taste.

I know that we are seeing pictures, but I see I think is very pretty! I am with Char, maybe in time, you will like it. It is such a change I think it shocked your senses a bit.

I have done that, too. Long ago, I saw a picture in Better Homes and Gardens of a bedroom for boys done in a very dark blue with red and white and I loved the look. When I had finished it, with a cute toy box like a drum in red and white, red and white checked curtains and red bedspreads for their bunk beds and cute shelves, etc. it was like going into a cave. I have to say, I never did get used to it and never had the courage to prime and repaint...it was a very large bedroom, but it did not have many windows for light and I think that was a major problem, too.
Also, I like the curtain you have at the window, so my vote is to leave it....

Jil

Your bathroom is very pretty in the pink paint color, and as others have said...give it a little time! Lots of great suggestions you have received...all good ones that will work for you. Here's one that I didn't see...soft white light bulbs and a shaded fixture will really soften the room. Also an off white in towels, the curtain and other accessories will soften the all over look, but still have a nice clean look like your white.

You did a great job....enjoy! Happy Pink Saturday!

Hey Jacalyn....yep...it's pink alright :) Cozy Homes gave you some great ideas. I did a glaze effect on our master bath stucco walls and loved it. You can try the same thing with white in a tiny area to see how you like it. And have you considered white shutters on the window with pulled back curtains on top of them? It will give the room some more architectural interest. But like the others said, live with it a little while first. It's pretty. :) xoxo

I love the white things up against the walls. If you keep it pink I would get a white curtain. Just a thought. Following you back.

I'd love to have a pink bathroom. A lady at work was just telling me that her sister's bathroom used to have a pink toilet, sink, and tub-but she hates it-she's already got rid of the toilet and the sink-I'd love to have the tub-but how would I get it out? Maybe more white accents would ton it down!

I agree with Lynn @ The Vintage Nest. White shutters & curtain would be lovely. Leave the color for a bit & if you still feel it's overwhelming, try a glaze. Congrats for taking a bold leap of pink faith!

You daring little pinkie you! How's your stomach feeling after seeing the LARGER picture of what I affectionately call (barf). I was laughing so hard at that picture that my hubby asked what was wrong!

I like your pink bathroom! We decided to randomly paint our bathroom today-a pretty aqua color. It looks a little bright right now so I know how you feel! I'm going to let it grow on me for awhile and I am sure I will love it soon enough! Hope you love your bathroom too!

Hi Jacalyn, the pink is very pretty..not sure how to tone it down as not a decorating expert. I would definitely freshen your window with a pretty white curtain though, would just pop against the pink along with the white trim..
Thank you so much for stopping by today, and have a wonderful week!
PS will head on over to shabby lane shops and vote for you my dear

I LOVE how it turned out - would you share the color/brand with us? I agree, don't change it for awhile and see if it "grows" on you. Ralph Lauren has a paint product called "candlelight". You paint it on over your paint and it gives the glow of candlelight. I'm not sure if it wouldn't lighten it up any, but it might.
Happy Pink Saturday to you! Thank you for stopping by to say hello!

Maybe you can use the sponging technique with a cottage white to soften the pink. The walls would have a splatterd spongy look...do you know what I mean? LOL
Honestly, I love that curtain but I think it's a bit much with the walls.
Your blog looks gorgeous for the holidays! LOVE your header :)

I think your bathroom pink is very pretty. You could add some white wainscoting halfway up the walls to soften the pink and add lots of mirrors, if you have enough wall space. Or some white textured wallpaper and a chair rail or border in white.

I would go with some whispy white sheers or a ballooon type window treatment in white. But, I know you will make the right decision.
